The Writer’s Crucible
T.W.C. is a community of multi-hyphenates who support each other in Hollywood and beyond. Our values are:
1. Authenticity
We are showing up authentically and writing the world as we see it, or as we would like it to be. We take ownership of our process, knowing the goal is progress and not perfection. We believe writing scripts to sell without recognizing the power of story to change the status quo, devalues our work and disrespects our audience. We embrace our humanity, with its numerous flaws and strengths, so we can root our work in truth.
2. Courage
We are doing things differently, on purpose. Our work is produced and recognized because it is honest to our lived experience, not in spite of it. We believe there is no “right” way to tell a story. We do not limit ourselves with the way it is, but instead ask questions about what could be, valuing curiosity over answers and recognizing formulas are tools.
3. Empowerment
We are not in competition with one another, but instead co-creators. We support one another as peers, meaning we do not place someone above us or below us, and that includes our coaches. We all have a right - and deserve - to be heard, helped, considered, and valued. This does not mean we will always agree. It does mean we acknowledge we are all human and will have diversity of experience. We follow the evergreen rallying cry: “don’t be a jerk face.”
4. Dignity
We recognize the dignity of the artist as a worker. In an age of A.I., mergers, streaming and stock buybacks we understand the value of choosing to work in The Art Economy. In 2019, the Arts & Culture Economy contributed over $919 Billion to the United States economy. Thats 4.3% of GDP. And over 5.2 billion workers are a part of the Arts Economy - find out more at Be An Arts Hero. Those in this business of show know the dismissive way even we can devalue our work. We celebrate the arts worker! We celebrate the value the art worker brings to a healthy and thriving society, and to a healthy and thriving Hollywood.
